Magnetic Island

Previous Stop: Cairns - Greyhound Bus
Duration: 2 days
Accommodation: BASE
Next Stop: Airlie Beach (Whitsundays) - Greyhound Bus

After taking the Greyhound bus from Cairns we arrived in Townsville and took the ferry over to Magnetic Island and the bus to BASE hostel. It was very basic and not a room you would want to spend any time in despite the beautiful looking exterior. We headed straight the beach once we'd arrived with a couple of people we'd met in Cairns however we weren't able to go in the sea due to the stingers which was some sort of heavenly torture. On Magnetic Island there isn't loads of places to go in the evening so BASE do activities, which weren't as horrendous as I had excepted.

Holding koala's was something I wanted to do and what better place to do it than Australia. Courtney and I found that Bungalow Bay Koala Village on Magnetic Island was a sanctuary we could visit by bus from the hostel. It was cheaper to go and hold the koalas there than it would have been at either Australia Zoo which we were planning on doing, and the previous wildlife centre in Melbourne.
